Plant care guide
Peace lily
Spathiphyllum sp. · Araceae
A tropical foliage plant that prefers bright, indirect light and evenly moist—but not waterlogged—soil. Protect it from harsh direct sun and cold drafts. Remove spent flowers and damaged leaves with clean scissors.
Plant care
- Light
- Bright, indirect light; tolerates lower light, though growth and flowering may decrease. Avoid strong direct sun.
- Watering
- Usually about once weekly, adjusting for light, temperature, pot size, and season. Press a finger 2–5 cm into the soil; water when the surface layer feels dry but deeper soil remains slightly moist. Water thoroughly until excess drains, then empty the saucer.
- Soil
- Loose, well-draining indoor potting mix with organic matter; use a pot with drainage holes.
- Humidity
- Moderate to high humidity is preferred. Keep away from very dry heat or use a humidifier or pebble tray.
- Temperature
- 18–29°C; protect from cold drafts and temperatures below about 13°C.
- Toxicity
- Toxic if chewed or ingested by cats, dogs, or people because of insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. Keep away from pets and children.
