Heartleaf philodendron
Philodendron hederaceum · Araceae
A glossy, heart-shaped leaf from a vining tropical aroid, commonly grown as a houseplant. The visible leaf shape and texture fit heartleaf philodendron, though a closely related aroid cannot be excluded from one photo.
Plant care
- Light
- Bright, indirect light; it tolerates lower light but grows more slowly. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun.
- Watering
- Often about every 1–2 weeks indoors, varying with light, pot size, and season. Press a finger 2–5 cm into the soil; water when that layer feels mostly dry. Water thoroughly until it drains, then empty the saucer.
- Soil
- Loose, well-draining aroid mix, such as potting soil with perlite and orchid bark; use a pot with drainage.
- Humidity
- Average household humidity is usually adequate; moderate to higher humidity can support larger leaves.
- Temperature
- Prefer 18–29°C; protect from cold drafts and temperatures below about 13°C.
- Toxicity
- Toxic if chewed, due to calcium oxalates; keep away from pets and children.
