Monstera deliciosa (Swiss cheese plant)

A tropical climbing aroid with large, glossy leaves that develop splits and holes as the plant matures. It is growing on a support, which suits its natural climbing habit.
Plant care
- Light
- Bright, indirect light; gentle morning or evening sun is usually acceptable. Avoid harsh midday sun.
- Watering
- Often about every 1–2 weeks indoors, varying with season, pot size, and light. Check the top 5–7 cm of soil with a finger or wooden skewer. Water thoroughly only when that layer is mostly dry, then let excess drain.
- Soil
- Chunky, well-draining aroid mix: potting soil or coco coir with orchid bark and perlite. Use a drainage hole.
- Humidity
- Average household humidity is tolerated; moderate to high humidity supports larger leaves. Provide airflow.
- Temperature
- 18–29°C; protect from cold drafts and temperatures below about 13°C.
- Toxicity
- Toxic if chewed by cats, dogs, or people; calcium oxalate crystals can cause mouth and throat irritation.
