Jade plant
Crassula ovata · Crassulaceae
A compact succulent with thick, rounded, fleshy leaves and woody stems, likely a jade plant. The blue-green foliage and dense growth are consistent with Crassula ovata, though the image includes several stems and decorative top dressing.
Plant care
- Light
- Bright light; several hours of gentle direct sun is helpful. Acclimate gradually to stronger sunlight.
- Watering
- Usually every 2–4 weeks indoors, less often in cool or dim conditions; adjust to drying speed. Push a finger or wooden skewer several centimeters into the mix. Water thoroughly only when it is dry throughout, then let excess drain.
- Soil
- Very fast-draining cactus/succulent mix with added pumice or perlite. The container must have a drainage hole.
- Humidity
- Average household humidity is suitable; avoid persistently damp, enclosed conditions.
- Temperature
- Prefer 18–29°C; protect from frost and prolonged temperatures below about 10°C.
- Toxicity
- Mildly toxic if eaten, especially to pets; may cause gastrointestinal upset.
